Developing System Prompts Alert for Hawaii
Residents in Maui and Hawaii counties are being urged to prepare as the National Weather Service (NWS) has officially issued a flood watch for the region. The alert comes in response to a developing tropical disturbance, currently referred to as Tropical Disturbance 15E, which is moving toward the islands from the southeast.
Meteorologists expect the system to bring significant rainfall to the state beginning Wednesday afternoon. The threat is expected to persist through Saturday afternoon, with windward and southeast areas of the Big Island and windward Maui identified as the most vulnerable locations.

What to Expect and How to Prepare
The system, which has the potential to intensify into a tropical depression or storm—currently being tracked by meteorologists as a potential cyclone dubbed 'Nolo'—poses a significant flash flooding risk. Because weather conditions can change rapidly, local authorities are emphasizing the importance of immediate preparation.
- Monitor local weather reports and NOAA radio for the latest updates on the storm's path and intensity.
- Clear drainage areas around your property to help manage heavy runoff.
- Follow guidance from local officials regarding any potential evacuation orders or shelter-in-place recommendations.
- Never attempt to drive, walk, or swim through flooded roadways; remember the mantra: 'Turn Around! Don’t Drown!'
- Secure loose outdoor items that could become hazards in high winds.
