A New Era for Mutants
The wait is finally over. At D23 2026, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige officially introduced the faces that will define the next generation of mutant cinema. Directed by Jake Schreier—who recently helmed the studio’s 'Thunderbolts' project—the upcoming 'X-Men' film is slated to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Meet the New X-Men
The announcement confirmed a powerhouse cast, blending established talent with rising stars. While the full roster remains under wraps, Marvel has locked in several key players to bring the X-Mansion to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
- Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier
- Adam Driver in a key, yet-to-be-disclosed role
- Kit Connor, Inde Navarrette, and Maya Boyd in foundational roles
Sadie Sink, who made her debut as Jean Grey in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' will anchor the team. Meanwhile, Christopher Abbott has been tapped to portray the iconic telepath Professor X, taking the mantle forward as the franchise integrates into the broader MCU narrative.
Beyond the 2028 Reboot
While this film marks the first dedicated X-Men feature since Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the mutants are already making waves. Fans can expect to see familiar faces in the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday,' which reportedly positions Doctor Doom as a threat of unparalleled scale. Notably, Sir Patrick Stewart is set to reprise his legendary role as Professor X for that film, creating a fascinating bridge between the past and the future of the franchise.
Feige added that there's more X-Men casting news to come, but he couldn't wait to introduce this first group of actors.
