A New Kind of DC Series
DC Studios is leaning into the unexpected. Following the success of early developments in the new DC Universe (DCU), James Gunn and Peter Safran have officially greenlit 'The People v. Gorilla Grodd.' Moving away from the typical superhero blockbuster formula, this upcoming HBO Max series will take the form of a true-crime style mockumentary, focusing on the exploits of Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen.

The Talent Behind the Lens
The show is spearheaded by creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the minds behind the critically acclaimed 'American Vandal.' Their expertise in the mockumentary format suggests a blend of humor and procedural tropes that will provide a fresh perspective on the DCU's lore. Yacenda is set to direct all eight episodes, while Perrault joins the cast.
- Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen
- Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd
- Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard
- Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant
- Wendell Pierce
What to Expect from the Story
The series centers on Jimmy Olsen as he investigates the criminal justice system in Metropolis. The central premise revolves around the high-profile case of Gorilla Grodd, who stands accused of the murder of his own father—a crime further complicated by the bizarre detail that he allegedly consumed his father's brain. While fans have speculated about potential cameos, there is currently no word on whether the DCU’s version of The Flash will make an appearance.
Between Skyler’s wonderful performance and the fantastic chemistry of the Daily Planet cast, we knew coming out of 'Superman' that this would be a fun world to explore.
